CCTV Remote Monitoring Explained

Many households and business owners now add CCTV to their list of important security measures, to help protect what’s theirs and to record criminal activity in the event of an incident.

For most homeowners, having a top quality CCTV system installed for home monitoring is enough to feel secure and give you peace of mind but for those in business, having to deal with the possibility of being broken into and stock stolen or large amounts of cash taken, or the shop front being vandalised and windows smashed, extra security is always a bonus.

A remote monitoring service works in tandem with your current CCTV system, providing you with that all important additional security and protection.

Basically, remote CCTV monitoring is akin to having an on-site security guard working for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year but for a fraction of the cost to your business.

How Does CCTV Remote Monitoring Work?

Your CCTV security system will be connected to the remote monitoring station you have chosen to employ, via an internet connection.

It’s up to you whether you choose to ‘live’ monitor 24/7, or only switch the service on when the building is going to be empty.

If your CCTV system picks up on any suspicious activity, the remote monitoring station will be sent an alarm.

This alarm will be noted by one of the operators, who will be able to look at images from your CCTV cameras via their monitoring screen.

The operator can pan, tilt and zoom in closely on the images so they can identify why the alarm was raised and will act accordingly, notifying a key holder and the correct emergency services if they are needed.

As part of a remote monitoring service, a live audio warning may be played across your premises, to warn any intruders that they’ve been seen, which on most occasions is enough to see them scarper before the police or someone else arrives.

Remote monitoring can help save your business thousands of pounds in potential losses.
